William Edwin Demeter, called Bubu, is a boy who likes to make things up and run away. Bubu – played brilliantly by little Paulino Svoboda – one day finds himself in an orphanage against his will because his Roma mother and black father are not interested in him. In fact, no one is interested in him – only a random passer-by, Dora (Zuzana Bydžovská), who finds him sitting on the street at night. Dora is a governess in an orphanage, and lives in a childless marriage with a lawyer, Karel (Karel Roden), whose first wife and children have left him. Dora is full of energy and desire to help all the children and animals in the world, while Karel is withdrawn, soberly sensible, and doesn’t want to experience any more emotional turmoil in his life. And into their lives – at first indirectly, accidentally – intervenes little Bubu, who is anything but the cute little baby that adopters are fighting over.

For those who like romantic fairy tales with mysterious magic and witchcraft, the story of Princess Mařinka and the young man Černoočka began filming in June. The two secretly meet in the woods near the castle and dream of a future together. Their love, however, is a thorn in the side of Czernoočka’s grandmother, the witch Curlyfoot, who would prefer her grandson to forget about Mařinka and take up the witchcraft. Therefore, she takes the opportunity when Prince Hubert comes to the castle for a courtship, deliberately arousing Czernooček’s jealousy and hoping that he will abandon Marinka. But Czernoočko secretly turns into a bird with the help of a complicated spell and flies to the castle to see for himself what is happening. He discovers that he suspected Marinka wrongly, but he cannot turn back into a human. Not even Crookedfoot can help him, so out of grief he curses Gretel as the cause of all evil and strips her of her memory. Gretel loses interest in everything that happens around her, finding comfort only in the company of the sad bird. But she is wasting away day by day, and there is only one spell that could save everyone… (official distributor text)

This romantic fairy tale plays with the idea that everyone’s destiny is the same as their deeds. This seems to be true even for the quarrelsome princess Svatava, who causes her sister Lada and her grandmother all the trouble. After one argument, the rebellious Svatava disappears. The queen grandmother, who is raising both sisters after the death of their parents, is worried about Svatava. But when Svatava’s Fate appears to her and assures her that even if she has obstacles, she will accompany her granddaughter on her journey through the world, the grandmother calms down. She knows that Svatava must try to make amends herself.
