History of the Stránov Chateau
The chateau acquired its present romantic appearance during the Neo-Renaissance reconstruction at the end of the 19th century.
The reconstruction at the end of the 19th century was carried out in 1890-1894 by the builder J. Mráz according to the project of Josef Schulz, commissioned by Maria Elisabeth von Waldstein and Wartenberg.
he castle was purchased in 1917 by Josef Šimonek, the president of Škoda Works and a senator of Parliament, and he lived there with his family until its nationalization in 1950. After the nationalization, the castle was used as a children’s home (with the forecourt serving as the JZD headquarters), which led to many insensitive modifications.
Since 2003 Stránov has been in the hands of the Šimonek family again. In 2004, the chateau was opened to the public for the first time in its history, and partial reconstructions of the interiors and exteriors of the chateau are gradually taking place. A stylish castle café was added in 2013.
